About Us
Our farm is located in southeast Iowa. We raise Fullblood, Purebred, and Percentage Boer goats. Being raised on a farm I enjoyed outdoor activities so in May of 2002 after being employed in the computer science field for over nine years I talked my wife into putting in some new fence and getting some goats to clear the brush in a pasture that had not been used for a number of years. I chose Boer goats because they were a hot item at the time and knew I could easily resell them if we decided to. We quickly became attached to those first two does and four doelings and purchased our first buck to start producing kids. After spending a few years learning we started to purchase better quality stock to improve our heard.
Our herd has continued to grow and plan kid between 40-50 does a year. We are completing an expansion of our facilities to accommodate the growth. We soon realized that even with Jenny at home I needed more help since she was busy raising our two daughters. I asked my nephew Tyler if he was interested in raising goats with us. Tyler has now been helping since fall of 2006. Guarding our herd is “Sam”, short for Samantha, our Great Pyrenees.
All our goats are either registered or will be registered with ABGA. We enjoy watching the kids play and watching them grow into strong does and bucks. As with anything the only constant with goats is change. We do our best to learn what we can about management techniques that will produce the best stock. We feed a custom mix to our adult stock and a new Kent feed product, that we are really excited about, to our kids. To finish a high quality diet we add pasture with a large variety of growth when available and hay when it is not. Vitamins and minerals are provided from year around free choice Vigortone Goat Pro. The best goat is a naturally strong and healthy goat. All our goats are vaccinated for CD&T. We treat for worms as needed throughout the year.
Our focus is on quality breeding and show stock and show wethers. Our best wethers will go to the Tall Corn Meat Goat Wether Jackpot sale held in the spring of each year. In 2007 we had our first personal experience in the show ring and now look forward to participating in more shows.
